The Opposite House by Swire Hotels is one of four Houses in The House Collective. Located in Taikoo Li Sanlitun a vibrant open plan shopping, dining and entertainment destination developed by Swire Properties, The Opposite House was designed by Kengo Kuma, one of Japan’s most celebrated architects. The House’s 99 guest studios include nine spacious suites and a penthouse duplex with a 240 sqm roof terrace. More than half of all the studios are over 70 sqm and all are strikingly simple with natural wooden floors and subtle touches of Chinese décor. The Atrium of the House presents itself as a contemporary art gallery, showcasing the work of exciting artists from the region and further afield. The House also has three restaurants, Superfly, the casual Sichuan bar restaurant that celebrates the culture of the everyday through electric vibes, bites and drinks; Jing Yaa Tang, chef Li Dong’s Michelin starred masterpiece of fine Chinese cuisine includin g its famous Peking duck; and Frasca, the modern Italian eatery serving classics crafted. Finally, Union, the cocktail bar designed by AvroKO, embodies the spirit of 1920s modernism and is the place to savor silk road inspired cocktails over thoughtful conversations.

Very Poor
I had heard that The Opposite House was once hailed as the pinnacle of Beijings hotel scene. Often staying at The Upper House in Hong Kong, I was intrigued to experience its counterpart after my recent stay at Rosewood Beijing. Let me assure you, the contrast between the two experiences was as stark as Bliss and Torment. Unfortunately, my recent encounter with the Opposite House didnt live up to expectations when it came to overall experience and room comfort. While the hotels prime location held promise, the prevalence of significant drawbacks cast a shadow over the stay, resulting in a very unsatisfactory experience.
After completing the check-in process, a bell attendant delivered my luggages to the room, left them by the door, and promptly departed. There was no orientation or explanation of the rooms features. Upon entering, I couldnt help but notice that the rooms design seemed to prioritise its aesthetics over practicality and comfort. A major drawback became apparent with the complete absence of any demarcation between the bedroom and the bathroom. This design quirk led to discomfort, particularly when stepping out of the shower or bath, as the abrupt shift in temperature caused by the air conditioning was disconcerting. To make matters worse, the master switch failed to power down all electrical components, leaving the lights in the shower and toilet on without any means of turning them off. The choice of hard surfaces throughout the room resulted in subpar sound insulation; as someone who prefers an early bedtime, the noises from the lobby persisted and hindered my attempts to sleep soundly. Privacy proved to be another HUGE concern. The hotels layout, with rooms facing an atrium much like public housing in Hong Kong, had regrettable consequences. Anyone in the lobby had a direct line of sight into each room, effectively broadcasting occupants comings and goings. I really do not understand the green film all over the window, is it an attempt to create a false sense of privacy? Once inside, the proximity of neighbouring buildings and the lack of one-way windows allowed pedestrians on the street to peer into the room, compromising both personal space and security. I can attest to this firsthand, as I observed my own room from the street with unsettling clarity. This lack of privacy dealt a significant blow to the overall comfort of the stay. Wonderful
We always stay at The Opposite House when visiting Beijing. Great location, right in the heart of Sanlitun, and awesome vibe. We will be back when we visit again

Fair
The design is cool, staffs are friendly and helpful.
None of the restaurants allow dogs to dine in, even when it's extremely hot outside. Unfortunately, I don't think it can call itself Pet Friendly. Also, the restaurants on the lobby floor are loud, living upstairs wasn't exactly pleasant.

Location
Staff service. Different staff made different mistakes. Room cleanness, stains in the bath tub. Wet towels at the balcony door. Poor soundproofing, could hear noisy sound upstairs and at the corridor. Pillows not comfortable.

High-class hotel with superb rooms, restaurants, and facilities. The staff was fantastic, greatly facilitating our stay by helping to set up Alipay and organizing excursions to the Great Wall and other sights. They also spoke fairly good English, anticipated our every need, and were in general very attentive. Minibar consumption and a little gift each night before going to bed are included in the room price. Definitely one of the best managed hotels I have ever stayed at.
Nothing.

When you enter the hotel you are already in awe of the place: a peaceful oasis with beautiful art in in the middle of bustling Sanlitun. We had a Studio70, which is a gorgeous spacious room in understated colours and wood. The B&O bluetooth speaker was a nice touch. Impeccably clean. Lush towels (lots of them). Walk in shower and great wooden bath tub. Complimentary mini bar. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. They take their time to get to know you and will arrange transport, dinner reservations, bicycles, basically everything you need. Gym is well decked out with free weights, cable machine, and very good quality treadmills, bikes etc. Beautiful swimming pool too. Lots of restaurant options in-house. All great. Saturday night the hotel bar Union was obviously the place to be for the hip 'n happening Beijing crowd. Live DJ, the place was buzzing. The location right in the middle of Sanlitun is excellent. We made great use of the cool hotel bikes to visit all the sites in Beijing. Love the Opposite House!

Interior decor, Union, kindness of staff, pool, location
Quality of food at breakfast - could be much more delicious in terms of quality of food and not least prep/taste - you just need a new head chef ;)
