The additional amenities were amazing! I enjoyed taking my dumpling making class and wish I had time to attend the shadow art performance.

The staff is really nice and friendly. They helped me with all my questions and helped me book a taxi to the airport (cost 114 yuan). I was able to order stuff online and they kept it in an easy to access place
I like that guests can see the 2000 year old UNESCO Shadow Art puppet show for free. It was really neat to learn about it
The curtains block all light so it’s easy to sleep in the room
Reception is 24h, WiFi works great
The room is very old which is understandable in the hutongs but the corners of the wall came off when I accidentally scraped my bag on it.
The bathroom was also infested with drain flies. I had to kill at least 8 the first night and 5 the second night. I stopped counting but every night I had to kill some. I’m not sure where they are coming from but it’s a big problem
The bathroom fan didn’t work so after showering the moisture has no where to go
There’s no window in the room that faces outside so no light or air comes in

The place looks much better in real life. I was amzing by the decor and the shadow puppet show.
There are not much restaurants around. The mattress was too hard, I must fold the planket in half and sleep like a pancake.

This is a low key gem of a hotel. The location is fantastic. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and had AC. The staff, especially Misa, Tom, and Mia were so helpful. Everything from helping us get laundry done to finding the closest awesome dumpling restaurant, to navigating maps and apps in English and Chinese. We were here for too few days to enjoy the shadow puppet performance but we saw the artists practicing when we arrived. This isn’t a fancy place. It’s down to earth and you immediately feel at home.

Very art and community focused. A free shadow art demonstration was included in the price. They had art and jewelry from local artists for sale. The staff were super friendly and spoke English. The location is fantastic for walking around and exploring local resident life. There is a fruit market within 2-5 minutes of walking.

Hotel has a great interior, rooms are comfortable. I liked The library room so much, they have a super delicious tea with dry fruits. Location is comfortable for taxi, its near the street with those willow trees.
Room had a window, but it opened to the hall behind reception desk, so we kept curtains always closed and had no chance to open window. I think this happens on 1st floor, second floor look like having windows outside.

Location was not far from the Houhai lake, Nan Luo Gu Xiang street, and about 900 meters from the metro station.
They gave me a room on ground floor just facing the lobby where people keep making noise even after 10pm.
The breakfast was not great, but ok for the price.

The location was amazing. Right in the heart of the city, embedded in the narrow and old streets (Hutong), quiet but with easy access to a busy area with museums, parks, bars, food, and shops. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. 龙龙 (Jerry) at the front desk was exceptional! The shadow arts were also a highlight. There were performances, activities of painting them yourself, books, exhibitions in the hallways, and souvenir, all about shadow arts. The lobby has free tea and coffee too. The price is very cheap compared to others in similar locations.
It wasn't clear to me when I made the reservation that most (if not all) rooms are without windows or only have windows looking into the lobby. The hotel has only two levels: basement level and ground level. Our room was in the basement level with a window into the lobby. The shower was passable, but there was some gunk in the corners. Sometimes the drain in the bathroom smelled bad, although it didn't both us too much. There was no mini-fridge in the room. One side of the bed had no nightstand and there was no lamp - the only lights in the room were the bright ceiling light and lights in the bathroom. Overall, the room is not somewhere you want to hang out in other than to sleep. Despite the central location, the narrow streets around the hotel makes it hard for cars to come in. Most likely you cannot get a cab at the door. There are several subway stations and bus stops, but they are at least 15-minute walk away.

The hotel situated in classic Beijing Hutong, the directions to the hotel were shared with us in advance, so we could plan our trip accordingly. All staff speaks perfect English, and everyone was extremely helpful and welcoming. Especially Jerry at the reception was always there to help and arrange things if needed. He even organized an incredible shadow theatre experience for our son, although on that day there was no show on agenda. There is a possibility to keep luggage for a day which we used. Breakfast is not included by can be arranged if needed. We had Western breakfast which might be downside for someone, but for us it was even a plus, given that it was our last day in China and we were already a bit tired of a typical Chinese breakfast. In the room we had everything we needed, it has really great atmosphere, it's modern but with Chinese Hutong vibe.
The location might be an issue for someone. We booked this hotel to visit nearby lakes, so it was fine for us. But if you want to visit typical landmarks of Beijing it's a bit far, and there is no subway station directly nearby. I can be also tricky to get there and order a cab to the hotel door because the streets are so narrow and everyone drives in both directions although it's a one-lane street. But that's what you pay for to get a real Hutong experience.

This is a Beijing hotel Inwould certainly reccommend. It’s in an interesting neighborhood, the Hutongs. One of the old and authentic area’s. Outside of the fancy and noisy city. The hotel has a beautiful inside courtyard where they play shadow art a few times per week. It’s so nice to experience this.
Maybe the beds could be a bit softer, but that’s personal preference. Sometimes taxi drivers are afraid to go to the narrow streets and drop you off about 5 or 10 minutes walking from the hotel. Which is no problem.
