We were so impressed by how gracious and helpful all the staff were. They treated us like family! We are American and speak very little Mandarin. But the staff responded immediately to messages in English, arranged a car from the train station, took us to and from the Great Wall, and even let us stay later in our room so we could freshen up before we left for Beijing. We will be back!

The exterior space was nice when some buildings were traditional in style, Seating arrangements outside to enjoy the weather and to chat was nice
We were not informed of the spa, jacuzzi etc at the other section of the hotel upon arrival. We only knew in the night when we were leaving the next day. Also no signage - if it had we could have enquired.
The architecture of the interior of my room was disppointing, Had wished for a more traditional style room.
Communication to the hotel directly went unanswered and showed to one of the staff

The location was amazing for visiting the Great Wall. Very quiet and relaxing place in fabulous shape. Extremely well maintained! Perfect place to downwind!
The only things I would remark would be that there is no privacy around the toilet. As it is out in the open. You can (in some rooms) close a door to the bath area but there is no ceiling so you can hear everything while lying in the bed. I think that is a but uncomfortable even for families. Toilet should be enclosed for privacy matters. And the mirrors in the bathroom are too low even for an averaged european woman.

The door to door service to and from the Great Wall was exactly what we needed and made our trip there that much better.

This place is serene. One can really have a quiet and good rest here. One of my best sleep ever away from the hustle and bustle from the city. Highly recommended. Roger has been very helpful and sincere. He is a treasure to the hotel.

General:
Beautiful architecture, with great service and amazing food. Hotel provided a free transport to and from the Mutianyu Great Wall. Highly recommended to walk along the Great Wall and to sit the toboggan down. For those who enjoy hiking they should try hiking up from Bei Gou village where the Brickyard Retreat is located to the beginning of the Jiankou part of the Great Wall.
Service:
The concierge and the restaurant staff were all very friendly and eager to serve. They created a very warm and comfortable environment for our stay.
Food:
We were amazed by the breakfast every day, which served both western and Chinese staples. All the ingredients were fresh and the cooking was excellent. Special mention to the wedges, hash browns and sweet potato fries that were nicely crisp on the outside whilst being moist on the inside. They served freshly cooked traditional dumplings and Rou Jia Mo as well as fresh handmade Chinese paos, and they were all excellent. These are just some examples.
Room:
We stayed in the Stone Forest villa and the rooms were comfortable. Heating worked well and there was also a fireplace. Especially loved the architecture.

The village was quiet. The house was easy to get to. It was right next to a system of trails that were fun to hike each day. The carry-away breakfast basket was good. The air conditioners/heaters work very well. Check-in and out are easy and efficient. Staff is helpful if you need anything. Nice courtyard and cute little lawn area. Bedrooms were cozy and the internet worked well.
A lot of things in the Stone Forest house were broken. Many of the screens, windows and doors need to be fixed. The kitchen is very small. The main living area; you can smell the bathroom most of the time. It stinks. The weekend we went was very cold but we were not allowed to have a fire. I've stayed at a few other houses at Brickyard that were great, but not this one.
