Located only 328 feet from Grindelwald Train Station, the Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof offers panoramic views of the Eiger mountain, an indoor pool, and gourmet cuisine. It was spacious accommodation close to the rail station and the bus stop which was very handy. The hotel is tired in need of modernisation. We didn’t mind this as much. Although one morning the water was gone. We were asked to keep all the taps open for the brown water to run which took a while. I didn’t expect this at such a hotel and thought we will get an apology of some kind but we didn’t. Breakfast was the same throughout our stay. Many times eggs and the rest of the warm food was cold. The staff at the breakfast was very attentive. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant. We liked the pool area. All in all it’s a mixed experience but despite some hiccups we enjoyed our stay.

It is difficult to express in normal English words how amazing Hotel Schweizerhoff is. Imagine the best hotel in the Harry Potter universe, and you're still not even close. The staff are super friendly, the food is amazing, literally every detail has been carefully and meticulously worked out - from the coathangers to the minibar. The devotion to traditional Swiss values is paramount - actually, all the stories you hear of Wizards from those fantasy authors whose names start with a capital "J", are mostly refurbished local legends. You should (if you can afford it) spend some time in the authentic Swiss Alps, and connect to the incomprehensible and epic energy of the Schweizerhoff!
That I could only stay for 1 day - next year, I hope 2 weeks!

Restaurant Schmitte was excellent. There had been a mix up in our reservation, but the Chef flexibly arranged for us a wonderful and charming full course dinner with paring wines. Probably one of the less recognised part of the Hotel. But for those staying we would strongly recommend a dinner there. Well worth the price (at least in Switzerland).
The online reservation system for the restaurants need to be reworked.

We stayed at the hotel for a week and couldn't understand why its rating on Booking.com is only 8.4. The hotel met or exceeded our expectations on all fronts: Location 10 Room 10 Facilities 10 Bar area 10 (nice and cozy) Reception staff 10 (I noticed several negative reviews in Booking.com, not justified in my view) Food 10: the hamburger was the best I have ever tasted (seriously. and I am a hamburger person), and the fillet mignon was fantastic Breakfast: excellent choice, great omelettes Spa 10 (Massage therapist (Marta) 10, amazing massage) Staff 10 With amazing views to the Eiger from our room it was a wonderful overall experience. We have stayed at several hotels in Grindelwald in the past. This is the first one we want to come back to, and expect to do so twice a year.

We weren't able to use the balcony because the door was broken. I reserved this room so I could propose to my girlfriend on the balcony, so this was a huge issue. I complained 3 times, but they didn't even try contacting me to explain

Beautiful old fashioned hotel
Overall 3-4 star service at most e.g. no guest cards prepared and complaints when requested so, no room intro (e.g. for fireplace, roof-windows) the latter being defect and known as dedicated remote control was removed, issue not fixed during our 5-night long stay, wrong indication about ski area size, showing by the way a summer map.. , staff insisting when being wrong (double-check with ski station staff done). In-dining room of very low quality (holiday-in like), and overpriced. Almost impossible to get a table at hotel's restaurant, when successful, 45min waiting time for placing the order, 1:20 to get the meals, forgot to ask for beverages/wine. Water order then fogotten. Empty soap at restaurant's WC. Worth to mention: some good staff employees.
