We had a good stay at Pousada Mango Rosa in Salvador. The property has a nice, cozy atmosphere and is well located right beside the beach, making it a convenient base for exploring the area. Overall, it was a decent stay with a pleasant setting, but a few improvements in service and amenities would make a big difference.
However, there were a couple of downsides. The WiFi didn’t work during our stay, which was a bit frustrating, and one staff member was quite rude when reminding us to leave the keys at reception.

I needed a quick stay in Salvador’s most touristic area (Barra), and ended up in what used to be the first governor’s residence. The room and facilities matched the photos exactly. Just a few steps away is the stunning Porto da Barra beach.
The mattress was a bit too soft for my comfort, and the toilet had a minor leak that needs repair.

The building and rooms feel dated and could use some updating. The air conditioning unit was noisy, but there was a ceiling fan as an alternative. We stayed on the top floor, but there was no lift, which could be inconvenient for some guests. The exterior is charming, with a pretty blue facade, though the doorbell placement was oddly high—potentially out of reach for shorter individuals, making access tricky. On the positive side, the reception staff were friendly, though English proficiency was limited, as is common in many parts of Brazil. The hotel is well-located, just a short walk from the beach and boardwalk, with shops and restaurants nearby.
Unfortunately, we encountered a couple of cockroaches during our stay.

Excellent location, really pretty building in a nice part of town. We only stayed one night as a spur of the moment thing as we enjoyed the beach so much. The staff member Décio that greeted us was so friendly and helpful and really made us feel welcome and helped us with navigating the local area

Great location! Close to everything, including the beach. Grocery shopping at the end of the street. Tons of restaurants are just steps away. Breakfast was nice and the ladies were always on top of things offering refills. The first room we stayed in was depressing. It really needed a total remodeling. The shower stall lacked caulking on the edges, making the entire bathroom wet. We complained a few days on a roll, which made the front desk put us in a larger, newer bedroom. This is a nearly 200-year-old building, full of charm, however, the rooms lack a good and detailed cleaning, especially on the corners, baseboards, behind the doors, were full of dust, side lamps were covered in spider webs, curtains had stains, fridges need a very good deep cleaning, including the sealing rubber which in both rooms were full of mold and stains. The front desk staff was nice and always ready to assist and answer our questions.

Well maintained antique building, with almost all facilities well functioning. Close to the bay, eateries, groceries, drogist, laundromat and the Barra beach. Great breakfast. I felt save. The receptionists are awesome. I had a bad flu and spent most of my 4 days in the sturdy twin bed which was great for my condition. Every once in a while I peeked out of the windows to feel and hear the noisy Barra vibe.
It is too much to ask for a recliner. Because of my flu condition, walking up the beautiful staircase was torture.
