I loved the location, close to both Copacabana and Ipanema, surrounded by great restaurants, markets, stores, exchange offices, everything you need. The activities at the hostel were always fun, the bartenders were awesome, and the dance teacher Camilo was amazing. Special shout-out to their tour guide Lari, who organized incredible free tours, always shared great information, took amazing photos, and even taught some Portuguese for free. I highly recommend staying here!

Hostal has everything you could need, nice chill out area and comfortable rooms. Location is not far from beach, easy walking distance to everything you could need.

The location is amazing, very close by the beach, the reception guys assisted with everything very quickly and knew to give information about city tours.
There were free daily activities in the hostels, like dance lessons, parties and concerts.
The city tours with Larissa who was really professional and interesting guide were very good,
I had few tours with her and It was great expreriance.

I stayed here for 2 days. It was a great experience. I got my own personal room and if i were you I would do the same. It just made the experience so much better. You get your own bathroom and a nice sized bed and a good amount of space. I met a lot of cool people in this hostel of all ages. Dont come here expecting a quiet calm retreat. There are events every night and the music goes till midnight. They have events and guides everyday. Very informative staff, calm and friendly.
There are a LOT of stairs to get up there.

Nice place and nice people. The staff was amazing. I appreciated the activities and tours they organize every day. We spent the evenings there and it was fun to hang out by the bar. They held our belongings for free the last day and we got the chance to shower before heading to the airport.
We had a private room with one bed and one mattress on the floor. It would have been nice to have an extra bed.

The location: great, two blocks from Copacabana beach and one street up from Nossa Senhora street, which has lots of restaurants, supermarkets and shops
The hostal: lots of great social spaces, a very large kitchen with multiple fridges and stoves, a bar and patio in the back. A TV, sofas, etc.. very great to spend time by yourself or with people
The rooms had bunkbeds and great storage
underneath (a full sized luggage fit under). The showers are great, hot water good!
There was always activities to do everyday and there was always a happy hour at the bar. The staff super friendly and the travelers very nice.
It's not a dislike, just a comment: there are stairs to get up to the hostal, so to keep that in mind (luggage, etc..) and the hostal is up a small hill

Location was good even though area looks quite dodgy as it's next to a favela
Overall not a positive experience from the start.
1. After I had booked in here, a few days before I arrived I was contacted on whatsapp saying that I needed to book again to guarantee the booking otherwise I would lose it. Not quite clear what was the point of booking on booking.com only to be told that I needed to book again and pay the full amount on a different platform or else lose my booking (do booking.com policies even allow that?) I rebooked on the other platform so as to not have to be charged penalty/the full amount but this seemed both unnecessary and cumbersome (platform asks for an address in Brazil, to name one thing)
2. Staff put zero effort to provide additional info e.g., histel activities, places to visit, good restaurants in the area and places with live music. Contrary to most reviews, I didn't find any of the staff helpful nor kind. To prove this, I also asked if there could be an early check in - not only was there zero effort to help after a very long flight, but also when I finally came back to the hostel (at 4pm) the room was still being 'cleaned'
3. I know hostels are not all well known for being spotless clean, but the men's bathroom was always damp and filthy.
Wouldn't recommend.

I had an amazing time during my stay at Pura Vida! The room was lovely, the staff are also super friendly and helpful, and the hostel is less than a 5 min walk from Copacabana, an iconic beach in Rio.
I’ll definitely be staying here again, would highly recommend :)
