I loved the location, the breakfasts, Rob, and the general sense of peace and beauty found at this place. It is exactly what I wanted - a quiet retreat that could serve as a base to see Rio, without breaking the bank or making me feel like I was in an unsafe area. Just excellent.

Breakfast was freshly made and delicious every day. The whole house and property were kept clean daily. Advice was kindly offered and gratefully accepted. It was obvious to me that the owners have made great efforts to make their home comfortable and lovingly maintained.

Chill neighborhood.
Unpleasant owner.
We were forced to pay cash because he said his machine is not working. We did that every if we didn’t have cash with us and weren’t planning to withdraw.
You can’t even speak in this place, at 10:30 he came saying we were singing and bothering people. We were talking.
Even after all our flexibility, at the end we couldn’t even leave the luggages there.

The property is beautiful and feels impressively secluded and safe for Rio. The room was spacious, with a large, comfortable bed. The owner was responsive, though not always accommodating. It's a unique accommodation - from the property to the owners, if you're looking for an experience where you get to know the owner and feel like you're in your own Rio villa, then we would recommend.
The location is great for relaxing, but less ideal for convenience—you likely won’t be popping back and forth easily. For a future trip, I’d choose a place that’s easier to access.
Check-in and check-out were inconvenient—arrival was only allowed before noon or after 7 p.m., which didn’t align well with our unpredictable travel schedule. The owner did communicate this to us while we still had cancellation option. We also couldn’t leave our bags past 4:30 p.m. on check-out day, which was earlier than ideal for our evening flight.
Despite the remote setting, noise was an issue: loud cars and trucks driving by on the cobblestone road, barking neighborhood dogs in the morning, and frequent plane traffic overhead.
The bathroom was technically private (standard room) but located outside the room, which felt awkward at night. It wasn't inaccurately advertised, but it was a bit misleading.

we absolutely loved this place!
Botafogo is safe and unique :) wonderful place among the trees - very quite! Rob and Richard are heartwarming and very supportive with Rio trips also give extra tips for you to have a safe visit. Rooms were very clean and cleaned daily, the rooms were equipped with a fridge, cosmetics and clean towels. breakfast always served with fresh juice with some sides like fruit salad/ fresh bread/ cheese and ham/cereals. A clean space to relax with deckchairs next to the pool :)
1h walk from Pao de Azucar / Uber easy to get :)

Friendly, knowledgeable hosts, lovely accommodation, a little oasis of calm in a bustling city. We really enjoyed our stay. Rob has a wealth of local knowledge and is happy to give advice about places to visit and local transport options. The walk to the nearest restaurants and shops is only 10 minutes. Breakfast is lovely , the best scrambled eggs!

If you looking for accommadation with lots of character then this is the place for you. Breakfast was very good, fresh and cooked as required. The outside 'help yourself' bar was a nice touch. The host, Rob, was very helpful and informative. He also gave us a lovely tour of the attreactions we wanted to visit. His contact skills before arriving were top class.
There are several steps to consider at this property if you have issues.

Pleasant
Friendly hosts that do their best to make you feel home and provide tips.
Generally good breakfast with eggs, bread and fresh juice every day.
While being helpful the host also came across a bit too much when it comes to providing safety tips. I was told several times not to wear my over the shoulder bag (even through the microphone of the camera doorbell on the street while waiting for an uber which felt a bit creepy).
Bugs/ants found their way to my room. At least the room was equipped with an anti-bug spray.
Not every uber knows the location which makes it a drag sometimes to get transport because of canceled rides. Most of the time I made the walk down the hill to start the day.
The room was very hot without AC. I slept better on the rainy days.
With the shower being directly next to the bed the room was also quite humid.
The ceiling fan was dusty, I had to remove dust from my bed several times.

It was in a very quiet part of a crazy city. It was very clean. A good breakfast and the staff were all very helpful
There is a short cut up and down the hill to the local shops. As the weather was so hot we always used a taxi so never got to use the shortcut.

The location was good. Easy access to the tourist spots and local shops. The hosts were fabulous and gave lots of hot tips on how to navigate the city and attractions.
Breakfast had a different juice speciality every morning which was delightful. The hosts make you feel as comfortable as possible to ensure you have a good stay.
The place is on a hill which is great for being quiet but is a challenge for walking. It does keep you fit if you're up for it.

The owner was very helpful and the atmosphere, decor, and views were great. The location was ideal.
The room I stayed in was stuffy and dark, requiring the doors to be kept open, and the pool wasn't clean. There was also a lot of noise at night. But overall, the charms, benefits, location, and value of this place outweighed these slight negatives.

Our stay was absolutely fantastic! The independent entrance and lush greenery surrounding the place made it feel like a hidden retreat. The hammocks just outside the room were the ultimate highlight—perfect for relaxing and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. Plus, the breakfast was superb, making each morning even more enjoyable. We can’t recommend this place enough!

Our room was relaxing and spacious with a comfortable bed, snacks/drinks (for a small fee) and nice bathroom. I enjoyed waking up to singing birds, the beauty of all the plants & flowers and a healthy home made breakfast.
What I appreciated about my stay at O Valeiro is I was treated like a guest in their house. This place is a bed and breakfast with lots of character and beautifully decorated. Robin and Richard are excellent hosts. They take the time to get to know their guests, share experiences and give great advice on places to visit. I really enjoyed that they both took the time to sit down with their guests and have breakfast with all of us.
Something to consider if you plan on staying here: If you have bad knees or some walking-type disabilities, there are steps you have to climb to get to the B&B and another set of stairs for breakfast…. But for me it was totally worth the experience.
