Interesting stay at a favilia!! Definitely recommend staying, as opposed to the more expensive tour!!
Loud shitty rap music, and loud movie gunshots, in the morning, but not from the hostel. It was amusing seeing ppl with face tattoos, and a loud stereo trying to be ghetto, but yet still more classy then the US shit

The hosts were very friendly & amazing.
This basic hostel, perched on a hill, offers stunning views but reaching it can be quite a challenge. Even Uber drivers tend to drop you off at the bottom, despite the constant flow of cars and motorbikes making their way up throughout the day. The hosts, however, were amazing and incredibly friendly, adding a warm touch to the stay. It’s a great choice if you’re looking to immerse yourself in the local experience—just be prepared for a steep hike in 35-degree heat.

Alexandre is the greatest of host! Very friendly and always ready to help. He even brought me to improve my Portuguese as we discussed a lot.
The room is a bit tiny for 8 beds and it sometimes get tricky to move when it’s full house.

The owner is super friendly and entertaining even though he doesn’t speak English. My friend got the super power to understand almost everything what he talks by his body language lol
It is on the top of the hill in favela.. the neighborhood is safe and ok but it was bothersome to walk up to the hotel after a lot of activities. ( Uber/ taxi doesn’t go up to to the top of the hill. You have to walk up the hill every time.)
The bed room..don’t trust the picture. It’s ok and cleanliness is acceptable, but I felt tricked by the picture.

An extremly welcomeing and familiar environment. The hosts Alessandro and Cristina are very kind and helpfull. The hostal is located in the community of Leme, 10 minutes walking from the beach, with amazing sea views and local nature close by. They provide an excelent breakfast in addition to evening meals and drinks. I would highly recomend this hostal to any travellers looking for the authentic río experience. Obrigado Mar de Babilonia!

the family who runs the hostel are very nice and helps a lot!
we came with suitcases and it was almost impossible to get to the hostel because the only way there is through hundreds of stairs, which is something you should take in consideration.

The view from the room is just amazing with the favela and the sea view.
The area is really safe ! Even if you are a solo woman travel.
10 min walking from the beach or 3 min by moto taxi !
Mattress is thin .. Shower curtain could be changed (mold). The locker are too small for a backpacker
