The front desk staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. Marta in particular was consistently upbeat, helpful, and attentive, and did her best to support guests throughout my stay. The staff experience and the accommodation experience felt completely disconnected.
The dorm rooms were extremely cramped and uncomfortable. Although the rooms are advertised as having air conditioning, it was turned off every day at 8:00 a.m., including while guests were still sleeping. In a shared dorm of 8 people during peak summer heat, the only alternative provided was a single old floor fan. Due to the room layout, guests had to compete for airflow, making rest difficult. Paying over R$600 per night for a dorm room without access to air conditioning during the hottest part of the day felt unreasonable and misleading given the listing description. Wifi extremely unreliable. The bathrooms were very small, poorly ventilated, and consistently unclean during my stay. The lack of space and ventilation made using the shower uncomfortable - it was common to leave feeling overheated, with nowhere practical to place personal items like towels or toiletries. During my stay, I was required to switch rooms partway through. On the day of the switch, I was away from the hostel and had to cut a paid day trip short to return. When I arrived, my belongings had already been removed from the room and placed together in a garbage bag. While nothing was missing, this was uncomfortable and could have been handled more respectfully. Overall, although the staff were kind, the physical conditions of the rooms and bathrooms, combined with the air-conditioning policy and room change experience, made the stay exhausting rather than restorative. I normally avoid writing negative reviews, but I think it’s important for other travellers - especially those sensitive to heat, space, or sleep quality - to be aware of these conditions before booking.

Location is top, just few minutes walking from Ipanema beach as well as close proximity to metro station. Free breakfast is also a good bonus, so you don't need to look for a place to eat.
The bathrooms and rooms were not clean. It can be problematic for many people. The dorms are quite small and only one bathroom in each floor is also not enough.

The location was good.
During Carnival, I paid an outrageous price to stay here, only to be locked outside at 1 AM for 45 minutes. Guests don’t get keys—entry requires ringing a doorbell and praying for a staff member to let you in. That night, no one answered despite ringing, yelling, and even kicking the door. When we finally got in, I calmly asked the owner what happened. Instead of acknowledging the issue or apologizing, he seemed upset at me for asking, waved me off, and told me to go to bed—like it was my fault that I was stuck out outside. Does this give me confidence that the owner cares about his guests and will work to fix the issue? Not at all. On top of that, the social atmosphere was non-existent, and the rooms were somewhat dirty. Don't stay here unless it is your only option.

location
this was the most disturbing place i’ve ever stayed. the rooms were filthy. the bed was filthy. the wall by the bed had mould and filth on it. the bathroom was awful, toilet overflowing, vomiting and poo on the floor. The next shower was 2 floors down - and gross. I had to pack up and leave, with nowhere else to stay. I decided to stay out all night in rio than to stay there. I’ve been travelling 3 years and stayed at over 75 different hostels and this was the WORST i’ve ever been to

Not a good vibe fir a hostal. I had better experiences in other parts of the world. Breakfast gets tiering after the third day. It is rather poor.
