The reason i chose this hotel is because: IBIS is generally a reliable chain. Nothing fancy, but they provide just enough of the basics for a short stay. Knowing what to expect is helpful. Since i'm not a beach person, i wanted to stay in this less touristy area of Rio to be close to local bars and restaurants. There are some "cool" spots south of the hotel which are worth checking out. The Metro, grocery store, and various other shops are close by too. So, location works if that's what you're looking for. Unlike some other Ibis', there is a ping-pong table and bar in the lobby which serves until around 11PM-ish. No "scene", but you can get a basic beer for about $2. These helped to make the place seem a bit more lively. Room: mostly clean, working safe, fine. Bed was not the most uncomfortable i experienced in Brazil, so that was a plus. Only a bath towel (no hand towel, no wash cloth - like most hotels in Brazil it seems. ) There was soap and a shower cap. Rate was around $80USD/night, but there were many deals in the city during this time. I wish there were more good accommodation options in this area. If you reserve via Booking, you cannot gain Accor points.
The staff needs much better training and accountability! I always put the "Do not Disturb" sign on my door. This time was no exception. I came back to my room, after being gone for about an hour, to find no sign on the door, and the room had been somewhat made up. This was extremely maddening because i had all my personal belongings laying out. I had to check to make sure everything was still there (still not sure). I approached one of the room attendants to ask if she had cleaned my room. She checked her list - making sure to walk up to a window in an open room to get proper light to see her list, then said "Yes." I explained the situation to her, and it seemed like she was telling me to ask someone else. When i asked her again if she cleaned the room, she said yes, but that she didn't see the sign on the door?? Then apologized? I am 1000% positive the sign was on the door - as it had been for the previous days - so don't understand how she didn't see it. To top it off, the room wasn't even cleaned properly. Not sure what was going on. This was very frustrating and incomprehensible. Be warned!! Check in - i walked up to one agent and was told to go to another agent. Whilst waiting for them to finish a call, the first agent welcomed another guest and checked them in!? Because the agent i was "assigned" was a trainee, it took extra long for check-in. I requested a certain room type with my reservation. Did not get it on check in (see above), so asked about a room change, and was told to call in the morning. I did, twice, and was told someone woud call me back. Nobody did. So, i had to go down to the reception. The agent told me i could change rooms, but to check back later. So i did, but then was told i couldn't change rooms because a big group was coming in.

Clean. Nice staff. Didnt know much english though but kiind to help. I was comfortable as a solo female traveler.

Good location, a safer neighborhood.
The hotel is very old. The bathroom area is very old and not convenient, it doesn't look tidy. There was a problem with water one day. No soaps, etc. Staff doesn't speek English
