The hotel is in a great location and is very clean. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job, and the staff are extremely friendly. The breakfast is varied and plentiful, and the rooftop terrace is a wonderful place to relax. We felt very welcome and safe.
As in many hotels in the big cities, remember to bring earplugs for the nights ?

?? The roof pool and area was a great surprise! and very welcome in the heat? and even though the hotel is in the middle of a really busy area , our room was at the back of the building and we weren't disturbed by any noise and slept well.
It's an old building with thin walls between rooms so just be aware..
It didn't cause us any problems at all though.
The bathroom could do with a revamp, as it is dated, but was perfectly adequate for our stay. Plenty of hot water.
We found the breakfast fine. Plenty of everything and replenished very quickly by the staff ? and a proper toaster for me☺️☺️!
We found the staff to be pleasant and courteous.

+ breakfast (included) w/ good selection of fresh fruit etc
+ helpful and friendly staff (spoke good English at front desk!)
- during the weekend the surrounding streets are one massive outdoor party, is stays NOISY the whole night (Friday through Sunday!) and you can everything inside your room -> make sure to request a room that does NOT face the street!
- the AC does work but it is super noisy (I used the noise from the AC to drown out the noise from the street)

I liked the cleanliness of the hotel considering the area that it's located in, so busy and smelly but was required to be within walking distance of the carnaval venue. Pool was nice on a hot day and the daily breakfast options were great. Plenty of restaurants near by, could walk to see much with caution of course.
The keycard for the door would just stop working daily, and we'd have to get it reset at the front desk.

Provided a comfortable bed and satisfactory bathroom. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Good breakfast and also able eat in restaurant in the evening where there was reasonable choice. Rooftop pool and seating were useful after being out visiting attractions in Rio.
Room was cramped. Not really 20sqm even including the internal L-shaped corridor from door to bed area. No bedside table on one side of bed. Had to store suitcases (medium sized) in the rooms internal L-shaped corridor.

I was scammed on the laundry.
They didn’t have pricing information and ended up charging 150 USD for a regular bag of clothes. The manager refused to talk to me on arrival. The WiFi is on and off and can not be relied upon

Tried 2 times to get food from the restaurant they said was open during our stay but both times it was shut and when trying to order room service they just hung up

The hotel is located not in the most prosperous part of the city but there's everything in the near vicinity: bus stops, restaurants, shops, etc. I felt safe.
The receptionists speak English (not common in Brazil)
The room had a 230v socket which was very handy for me.
The window of the first room I got faced the street and it was very noisy on Saturday and Sunday. The window was old and wasn't soundproof at all. I complained and was offered a different room.
The second room was far more quiet but it was craving for renovation so wasn't more comfortable. Although it was clean, the facilities were so old that it seemed less clean than it actually was. The A/C was old, weak and noisy. The fridge was noisy.
There's no espresso for breakfast, The breakfast venue was small and got overcrowded after 7am. I found a piece of hair in the food.
The Laundry service is ridiculously expensive (x2.5 to clean a t-shirt compared with a 4 star hotel I moved after) and not every laundry slip in the rooms contain prices. I had to ask for the prices at the reception.
I was happy when I finally checked out.
