its pretty and well taken care of
There is a lack of management - they charged me for consumption when the consumption was paid for. I was not refunded and I was also overcharged. And I had to go through booking.com to at least get my over payment back. It all has been very uncomfortable for me as I didnt feel safe staying there. Not for the place itself but management is unbalanced.

Crowed place and dusty, my son couldnt breathe and was coughing a lot after they put too much bleach I. The pool and the manager never warned us.
The owner is not professional at all. I had to call the cops on her because shes not a coherent person. She begged me to stay there and then treated us like crap. Too bad she partners with a reputable company like booking.com.

the building is lovely, comfortable and clean. the staff were very nice, helpful and kind, especially Bruno. breakfast was also lovely. there are two gorgeous turtle who live at the hostel
They charged us $100 reals to store our backpacks for 4 hours (they wanted to charge $150 but we refused to pay this much). we have travelled all over South America and this is the first time we have ever been charged to store luggage, its really not acceptable especially as we paid 150 British pounds per night to stay here as it was over new year. this policy absolutely needs changing.

Very good breakfast. The owner and the staff are very inviting, so perfect for alone travelers who want to experience real Rio with Cariocas. Have a supermarket next door, and many restaurants on the street. The subway is a 5-10 minute walk as is the beach. Nice church close by, and walking distance to Orca and Praia Vermelho
The Botafogo beach is for exercising mostly since the water is dirty and there are a lot of boats in the bay.
