The house is filled with a happy and friendly vibe from everyone. Great host, very good breakfast, comfortable rooms, lovely view over the city, a pool and clean cold water available for free. I can only recommend this place, and if we return to Rio, we will come back here again!
The house is located up a steep hill, so a bit of climbing is required. During the festival, the taxi drivers did not really want to go up there unfortunately.

They are so friendly and it is a beautiful property with great views and an outdoor area.
When traveling back at night I would advise taking an Uber as it is a little distance from the metro

Very Good
very nice location, just a block from the famous painted selaron staircase. the owner was very nice and helpful with a lot of information and helped in arranging a taxi. they opened their kitchen so I could warm my food and help myself. the house is very nice and artfully decorated. the breakfast was very nice and sumptuous with fruits, juices, breads and coffee etc.
since the property is located on a hill, you have to either walk the selaron steps to get to it or the taxi has to drive uphill which can be tricky during rain.

It is like staying with family. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and have great knowledge about Rio and Brazil. Guilherme arranged a cab for our early morning flight but drove us himself when the cab did not ring back when he double checked in the morning. They even provided us with breakfast in the middle of the night. Location is also perfect: right next to Escaderia Scelarn, trendy cafs and restaurant in 10 minute walk uphill. Feels safe especially if you are not alone. From the terrace you have an excellent view on Centro area and the house itself is really beautiful and you are allowed everywhere on the terrace, living room etc. Beds were good quality.
For us everything was wonderful. It is good to note for people that are not steady on their feet that the house is on a very steep street and has stairs and a mezzanine level in the room. For everyone else we totally recommend to stay here if you want to explore the Santa Theresa area.

Very helpful and welcoming owner and his wife made the stay greater than expected! The photos in Booking are not representative: in real life, the rooms and hotel look better!!

Wonderful
The location is perfect for a few days in and around Santa Teresa. The house is so beautiful. The breakfast is great. Guilherme is very helpful. It's easy to feel like an old friend of the family!
If you want to spend a few days seeing other parts of Rio de Janeiro, you may find the early morning walk down the hill from Santa Teresa a bit cumbersome, not to mention the evening walk back up. I'd certainly recommend staying in Santa Teresa for a few nights if you have no problems climbing steep hills, but maybe not for eight nights like I did. In my room, I then had to climb a steep staircase to reach the bed which is in a loft above the rest of the room. I managed, also in the middle of the night, but it is a major inconvenience. Also, don't try to stand up next to the bed, or you might hurt your head on the low ceiling. I did, many times. There were mosquitoes but no mosquito nets.

Everything from the rooms, the breakfast, the location but most of all Guilherme and his wife and staff made it special. Guilherme is so helpful and very knowledgeable on Rio, as well as the rest of Brazil, so can give great advice. Will stay here every time I visit Rio if possible!
There is nothing to dislike

Wonderful
The host and is one of the most courteous persons I have ever met...he is extremely helpful and pleasant to talk to, and made us feel welcome and comfortable since the moment we got there. He and his wife always made sure to prepare a lavish breakfast with a variety of things on the table every day (even freshly made juices from the fruit trees in the garden), different types of bread, and also some local jams and compotes. The place itself is very nicely and quaintly decorated, and there are many areas (garden, terrace, small yard) where you can relax...and Santa Teresa is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Lapa. Really very happy with the stay!! :-)

Clean, comfy bed, good shower. Great breakfast.
Guilherme is the most kind, gentle and helpful host. Nothing was to much trouble and he printed out a walking map for me.
The breakfast is with a view of Rio and although simple its laid out with love and there is fresh bread rolls, orange juice, jam, eggs on request, cake and fruits. There is plenty of it.
Its safe to stay here as there are 3 locked doors. It is a quiet place and you are left to your own devices after breakfast. There is an honesty fridge if required.
The beds are all on a mezzanine, so a stairs up to bed in the room, so theres lots of space downstairs in your room. AC is good and there was always hot water.
In the neighbourhood walking up the road outside the casa is a corner street bar that does great pizza, snack foods, drinks and has a shop for water, snacks etc. I was comfortable sitting here on my own at night enjoying a beverage. No one bothered me. And they had a live band on a few nights. I walked down from here most nights alone and the street is fine.
Down the hill is the famous Seleron steps that leads into Lapa area where you can party till dawn if needed. Walking right to the bottom of the road isnt advised. Lots of transient/ rough sleepers here. Its just a bit off the Main Street, quiet and I think dodgy.
About a 15 min walk away is metro Glria. That takes you to most of the key areas in Rio, cheaply at 4.60B. Fine walking in day time. Wouldnt walk after dark in Rio.
I have really enjoyed my stay here at Casa IGBA. I extended my stay as its such an easy chilled out place. Safe. Homely. Kind people. Secure with personal service.
If your looking for a party bar, with lots going on this is not your place.
Nothing. Loved it.
