Because there was no minibar in the room, I went down to the reception late at night to buy some water. The gentleman at the desk told me that payment had to be made in advance. I suggested that he could simply charge it to my room, but after checking the system, he said that since my stay was already fully paid, it was not possible to charge my card again (!?). I didn’t quite understand why, but I didn’t insist. I told him he could note it down and I would settle it at check-out when returning the room key. However, he refused, saying it was the hotel’s policy, and insisted that I go back to my room and bring cash or my card immediately.
This was the first time in my life I had encountered such a situation, and it certainly does not represent hospitality. I had to return to my room, bring €2.30, hand it over at reception.

The hotel located exactly between the train station and the Grand’Place. The room was perfectly clean.
The room was very small. There was almost no room for one suitcase, let alone two. There were gouges in the wall by the bedside, which I understood because there was such little space to put on my shoes while sitting on the bed.

They don’t even provide a kettle in the room — go figure. Ok, it’s Ibis, but still… I just can’t. So if you happen to have a bad throat or a cold, you actually need to step all the way down to reception and request one. Ditto if you get up in the morning and simply want some warm water to detox. To be fair, they were always helpful — just being human! But imagine otherwise. Someday it would be interesting to know the reasoning, if they ever care to explain.

Breakfast was quite good and definitely worth 15euros. Location was great, as it was within walking distance from most of the places we wanted to visit. Our room was spacious enough for the three of us.
As we were on the 5th floor, there was only a small window so the air flow was not the best.
