The location was wonderful, being a short walk to the main squares. The accommodation was lovely, clean, very tastefully decorated, gentle background music in the lounge, and the breakfast and team were superb, very friendly and polite. The coffee machine in the room was very welcome after long walks around the city. There was an honesty bar and lovely terrace overlooking the canal, that we didn't use unfortunately, being busy site seeing, but will do on another visit.
All good for us. The only minor point, and not an annoying problem, more amusing, was working out the switching for the lights in the room, not being a simple on off, but a perplexing dimmer arrangement.

I booked a stay at B&B Barabas in Bruges through Booking.com on September 11 for arrival on September 12. After a five-hour train journey, I arrived with my luggage at around 7 p.m. and learned that my reservation had been cancelled without any prior notice to me. I was not allowed to check in and had to find another nearby hotel at an unexpected additional cost.
I requested a refund, but it has still not been issued. After I described my experience in a review, the owner responded with an offensive comparison to Colombian cartels. I then received a message saying that I would only be refunded if I removed my review.
This experience was distressing, and I hope Booking.com will help resolve the refund and address the way this complaint was handled.
What upset me most was the lack of assistance and courtesy. I was not allowed to enter the property, received no clear explanation for the last-minute cancellation, and was offered no help finding another hotel. After a five-hour train journey, I was left outside with my luggage at around 7 p.m. As I mentioned, one of the neighbours told me that the hotel had cancelled reservations at the last minute before. I cannot verify that claim, but it made an already distressing experience even more concerning.

I initially chose not to write about the worst parts of my experience out of respect for the business. However, after the owner became unhappy with the rating I gave and contacted me on my private phone number with an obscene middle finger gesture, I feel I have to speak up. That behavior was shockingly rude, disrespectful, and totally unacceptable. As for the accommodation itself, the room was in a very poor state of cleanliness— there were spider webs in the room, and the balcony was filthy, including what looked like rodent droppings. After the first night, I asked to leave, but was told that was not possible. I respected that and stayed, but after raising these issues, the attitude toward me turned cold and unfriendly. When I sent a photo to illustrate one of the hygiene issues, the response I got was, “Is this a problem for you?” which I found astonishing. Basic cleanliness should not be treated as optional. At breakfast, pork products were placed directly on top of or against cheese on the same plate, without any consideration for guests with religious or dietary restrictions. I found that very off-putting and inconsiderate. Despite everything, I originally held back out of respect, but the private message I received from the owner crossed a line. Based on my personal experience, I would not stay here again.

As a family of six - including two seniors and two teenagers - we stayed in the largest family room on the top floor of the B & B. We loved everything about our stay at Barabas. The location allowed us easy access to the old town, the room was comfortable, modern (newly renovated) with air-conditioning, and the breakfasts on the garden terrace were the perfect start to each morning. Astrid & Bert were attentive and kind hosts, who took time to visit with us each day and provide wonderful recommendations for Bruges and greater Belgium.

The property was just amazing. Very traditional, clean, easy access and so well maintained. The hosts were fantastic, very kind and everything was explained in details in order to make our stay comfortable and easy. The location was 10/10 as we could go everywhere on foot. The breakfast also fantastic with nice variety. The view from the windows and the court yard was simply the best. We felt like we were invited to good friends that did everything they could to make us feel like home. Thank you

We were contacted a few days before our stay to say we were being moved to the property next door as there was now an event on at the property.
Room in adjacent property was fine but did not have the wow factor of the property we booked adjacent which is overlooking the canal. Stay was pleasant but disappointing as we’d booked this property months in advance specifically for the amazing views and reviews.

We stayed in the Cottage and it was just fantastic. Spacious, very comfortable, clean and it had everything we needed. It is located very centrally and at the same time is very quite, even if the city was quite busy. Bert was very kind and it was inspiring to see his dedication and attention to detail in managing his property. Highly recommended and we hope to be back soon.

We had a great family room that was actually two rooms adjoined. The rooms were spacious and the a/c was a welcome amenity since it was pretty hot out. Breakfast in the garden, along the canal, was a highlight (as was having a glass of wine in the evening out there).
