Staff is really helpful about storing the luggages and where to visit in Vienna. They are doing their own meals with pay as you wish style and it is good. Room had a really big space so it wasn't like a prison cell like other hostels.

Bar, dinner, breakfast and social atmosphere. Clean & secure rooms.
Locals in the area were boring and somewhat unfriendly. Maybe they need some more sunshine. Local restaurants were OK at best. Hostel was clean and the staff worked hard.

I absolutely love this hostel. It’s one of my favorite ever. It feels homey, welcoming, warm. Breakfast is great. Employees are so kind. Facilities are great. I love when people play music and the free lemonade. I will definitely stay here again.
Street can be a bit sketch at night.

Very comfortable place with a welcoming atmosphere. I was nervous because I never stayed at a hostel before but my original plans fell through and had no other options. It ended up being a wonderful alternate. Alida at the front desk was helpful and kind. She gave out resources for talking public transportation and local venues to visit. The kitchen was cost and meals were delicious. I was in an all female room with 5 others. Sure , at night it got a little loud, but expected. I had ear buds & listened to music to sleep, which I do anyways, so no problem. The bathroom and shower area were clean. I felt safe and comfortable. I will definitely recommend.
Actually it was all unexpectedly great! No complaints.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They made the check in and check out process super easy and simple. They were very welcoming and gave us lots of information about the hostel as well as the city. The room and bathrooms were very clean!
The only downside was the doors and walls were relatively thin so you would be able to hear people opening and closing doors at night as well as talking

Great hostel atmosphere, daily activities in the evenings to meet new people, nice piano next to the bar: I had a fantastic stay. Also really nice that my locker had a power socket to charge my laptop. (not all have them I guess though)

I stayed at Hostel Ruthensteiner for several weeks. While most of the staff were kind and the community atmosphere was positive, my experience with the operating manager, Juan, was deeply disappointing.
On multiple occasions he told me I was “annoying,” said “you need something what else is new” when I made basic requests, and even told me I was “costing him a lot of money being here.” When I booked a private room for a friend, he remarked twice that if she was “annoying or picky” he would ask her to leave.
I also only ever asked for the Booking.com rate after Juan encouraged me to book directly with the hostel. Despite paying full price for most of my stay (including an apartment at €116/night), I was made to feel like a burden for asking for a fair rate.
As a guest who spent a considerable amount of money here, I expected to be treated with basic respect. Because of these experiences, I would not stay here again or recommend it, despite the otherwise nice environment.

The hostel has a lively, social atmosphere and I met many great people during my stay. The facilities are comfortable and well maintained, and I appreciated the community vibe overall.
Unfortunately, my experience with management was disappointing. When I asked if the booking rate could be matched, the manager Juan told me that having me as a guest meant they were “losing a lot of money.” He made several other comments that made me feel unwelcome during my stay and asked me to pay for new towels and misplaced keycards despite being a long term guest. The last comment made me feel particularly unwelcome, and I decided to leave earlier than planned. I even considered rebooking, but when I returned the following evening just to share a drink with friends, management told me I couldn’t visit. After that, I no longer felt comfortable coming back.

I was surprised at how lovely and well-decorated (and spacious!) my room was for the price. Had everything I needed including fan and kitchen utensils etc. Every member of staff I met was so friendly and helpful. There is a nice atmosphere. Very conveniently located by Westbahnhof.
