Disappointing
The Leo Grand is the seventh hotel in this price range that I’ve stayed at in Vienna over the past year, and I am very disappointed. Cleanliness, design, and quality were not the issue—the rooms are nice and clean. I would even highlight the breakfast, which was fantastic.
The problem, however, was the approach to customer service. Waiting at the reception felt like waiting in line at a doctor’s office. The lobby was full, no one greeted us, no one offered us water, nothing. There were two receptionists rotating, but one always had to wait for the other to return because they each had to personally show guests to their rooms, which made the whole process extremely slow.
The biggest issue, though, was that we chose this hotel from a wide range of options specifically because it offered rooms with a bathtub. We paid for that room, yet we received a room with a shower. When we went downstairs to inquire about the issue, we had to wait another 25 minutes before it was our turn again.
The receptionist told us that within the room category we purchased, some rooms have a bathtub and some have a shower, and all the bathtub rooms were already taken. He offered to send some pastries and a bottle of wine to our room. I replied that this wouldn’t save our experience, especially since we had planned a romantic evening with the bathtub. He then said he could give us complimentary breakfast, but since we had already prepaid it, that was no longer possible. I said fine, then at least send the wine and pastries to the room—however, this is not sufficient compensation, and we would write about our experience in a Google review. Guess what? They didnt deliver anything to our room. My partner wrote the review that evening.
The next morning at check-out, a new receptionist approached us because of the review. She blamed us and essentially told us it was our fault because we should have booked earlier and called the hotel to make sure we would get exactly the room shown on Booking.

Loved this hotel. The decor is to die for and love the attention to detail…everything was spotlessly clean. The location was perfect and central to all of the main shopping streets/Christmas markets/public transport and tourist attractions. The staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome and the bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch. Complimentary mini bar was also very much appreciated.
The restaurant was only open for breakfast. They are doing some renovations and I believe they’re adding on a bar which is badly needed. Although the hotel is very central and close to bars and restaurants, it’s always nice to have the option of having a drink/meal in the hotel you’re staying in.

We were generally satisfied with the overall hotel experience and the staff.
However, we were unfortunately not pleased with the lady who handled our check-in on the first day. Her attitude was noticeably unfriendly.
I had mistakenly written “St. Peter’s view” instead of “St. Stephen’s view” in my previous message. It happens, and it wasn’t an important detail for us, but we asked if it would be possible to switch to that side if available. Her response was unnecessarily harsh, saying something along the lines of “You wrote it wrong, it’s your fault.”
I’m lowering the rating solely because of this staff member.

Exceptional
This hotel exceeded each of my expectations. Firstly the staff were wonderful, particularly the reception staff. I was also very pleasantly surprised by breakfast. Usually I never bother with hotel breakfasts but as it was included in my room rate I did. The breakfast is a la carte, and was excellent. There was a really wide range of choices that aren't your standard hotel breakfast fare for example french toast, and lots of different smoothies. I also loved that they did Matcha late included in this rate (something that usually you have to pay extra for). My room was beautiful, I choose an attic room and whilst there was not a lot of natural light it made for an exceptionally cosy room. The decor is beautiful and the bathroom was too. The bed was very comfortable and so was the duvet and pillows. Most importantly the room was silent and as a light sleeper this was very important to me. Lastly I LOVED that the mini bar was complimentary, it shouldn't matter but it really does! The location couldn't have been better either, super central but nice and quiet.
The only criticism I can think of is that dinner didn't seem to be offered at the hotel but for me I wouldn't usually have dinner at the hotel given there are so many great restaurants within walking distance.
