Vienna's oldest hotel is located directly in the city center, only 164 feet away from Saint Stephen's Cathedral and in the immediate vicinity of many other sights. Founded in 1746, Hotel König von Ungarn (King of Hungary) first served as the guest house of the archbishop and is especially popular with cultural travelers and lovers of opera, concerts and theater. All rooms are individually designed and charmingly furnished. The glass-covered interior courtyard invites to relax in a traditional ambiance. The name was inspired by the Hungarian nobility, who used to stay here in the times of the empire. In the adjacent Mozart House, Mozart composed “The Marriage of Figaro”. Hotel König von Ungarn is mentioned in books by Sándor Márai and Julio Cortázar, among others.

The hotel is the second oldest in Vienna and the rooms, bar area and dining room reflect the beauty and charm of a stately hotel. It is in a perfect location in the city near the cathedral. Despite its age, the facilities are modern, well preserved and extremely comfortable! The staff are very professional, friendly and accommodating to the needs of guests. Our room was beautiful, quiet, clean and spacious. The bathroom and shower area was wonderful as well. The breakfast included in our room was plentiful and delicious. We loved our stay there and would highly recommend it to those traveling to Vienna!

We were greeted by friendly professional staff who showed us to a beautifully appointed room. Every comfort was provided and it was exceptionally quiet. The bar downstairs was welcoming and relaxing, and breakfast was fresh and varied with excellent service. The location was very central and we were able to walk to most attractions.

The bed was incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was huge. The free breakfast was very good. Just steps away from the main square. A/C worked GREAT on 103 degree days.
There was only bar food for the evenings. Reviews for dinners were several years old.

Hotel rich with history and comfortable rooms. Also the rooms are super soundproofed. I never heard anything from the street or rooms around me. Lovely peace and quiet. It felt very old Vienna. Amazing location (attached to Mozart’s residence).
The front desk staff were a bit slow when I was checking in. I think some of the staff might have been new.

Our stay at this hotel was a real pleasure. The staff is exceptionally friendly and always ready to help, the breakfast is excellent and varied, and the atmosphere is authentically Viennese, exactly what you’d hope for from a hotel in this city. It truly completed our overall impression of Vienna. I would definitely recommend it!

The maisonette was perfect for our family of two adults and two teens. The hotel is in a wonderful location near the cathedral. The staff were very helpful, recommending several excellent restaurants.

In general we love this hotel for it location, staff and general feel.
The bathtub in room 101 is “dangerous” to get in or out of. You worry about slipping every time you take a shower. It is a hassle to put the mat every day and get in/out. It is high and not easy to use.
