About

Located in northwest Italy along the Po River, Turin is the capital of Piedmont and was once the capital of Italy. Turin's climate is humid subtropical, unlike the Mediterranean climate associated with the Italian coast. Summers are mild to hot and winters can be somewhat cold. A number of historic buildings are located in Turin, including several Savoy royal houses that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Many people may have heard of the Shroud of Turin, believed by some to be the shroud that wrapped Jesus Christ, found in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. Turin is also considered the place where Italian cinema began and remains a major center for television and film in the country. Cinephiles will want to visit the National Cinema Museum. The Slow Food movement is popular in Turin, and the city is renowned for its chocolate.
